CINCINNATI (WKRC) — A fan was shot with a stun gun after running onto the field during a Cincinnati Reds baseball game at Great American Ball Park.
Sports broadcaster Chase Younts posted video of the incident on X, which showed a fan running up to Cleveland Guardians center fielder Tyler Freeman and appearing to speak to him.
The fan then ran to left field while being pursued by a police officer. He stopped and performed a backflip in front of the officer, who attempted to apprehend him.
The fan was able to break away, but was then shot by the officer.
After being stopped, the fan was surrounded by authorities and taken into custody.
According to Hamilton County court records, 19-year-old William Hendon was booked at 10:51 p.m. Tuesday and charged with the following:
- One count of obstruction of official business
- One count of criminal trespass
He appeared in court before Hamilton County Judge William Mallory Wednesday morning.
"You're a star this week; you've got your 15 minutes of fame," Mallory told him.
Mallory told Hendon everybody thinks he landed the backflip. Hendon replied, "Pretty sure I did."
Hendon was initially charged with a felony trespassing charge. That was amended in court to a misdemeanor charge of criminal trespass on a place of public amusement. He also faces an obstructing official business charge.
Hendon was allowed to get out of jail without posting bond but is banned from Great American Ball Park for now.
